My Great Grandfather bought this house and 285 acres in 1919. The house was originally built in 1906 (according to tax records)by Hall family. They sold it after two years to the Dentons whom sold it to my family in 1919. It did not come into the city until 1960. My mom grew up in this house and we were walking distance to the house to see Gonga. It was safe then. Gonga passed in 1997 just shy of her 100th birthday. My mom bought out her siblings. We found out she had Leukemia in 2012 and passed in 2013. My dad did not want to stay there without my mom. We had someone interested in fixing it up at one point but the piers under the house were old and needed to be replaced. There were several things that would need to change to bring it up to code since it was changing ownership. We were grandfathered in on a lot of things. It would have cost about $250K to fix it or to move it.(Moving power lines is expensive.) Ultimately the house was torn down last Friday. I will try to post some of the older pictures as we come across them. My family did take out the fireplaces, doors, some of the molding and some of the flooring. We preserved as much as we could.
