My Herbal Story---Shi Jue Ming Shi Jue Ming is a clam shell. As a big clam shell, it has two important features, one is that it is heavy (mineral like-herb), another is that it looks like the liver or eyes (Wedge-shaped). So this herb has a special effect on liver disorders. As a heavy herb, it can be used to suppress liver yang, treating liver yang rising manifested as headache, dizziness, red eyes, etc., as seen in hypertension. In the typical formula for liver yang rising, Zhen Gan Xi Feng Tang,, Shi Jue Ming is used as one of the herbs calming hyperactive liver yang. Another function of this herb is to improve vision. On one hand this herbs look like eyes or liver, on the other, when you look at the interior aspect, it is very bright and shinning. This is why it can improve vision, used to treat blurred vision, nebula, etc. In the ancient time, it is believed that the function of this herb has a direct proportional relationship with the brightness of the interior aspect of the clam. That is, the brighter it is, the better this herb will be in improving visions.
