My Homily this Week (9.7.14) WALKING TOGETHER IS BETTER THAN WALKING ALONE usccb.org/bible/readings/090714.cfm I. CHURCH, DO YOU LIKE WALKING? -If we are walking with a destination in mind like our life here on earth, we cannot walk alone. -Today the Lord Jesus said: “Where 2 or 3 are gathered in my name, I am in the midst of them” II. CHURCH, THE LORD JESUS WANTS US TO WALK TOGETHER! -This is very hard for us Western Christians to do! =We like walking alone -Pope Francis in his meeting with 7000 school children from Jesuit schools in Europe said in June 2013: =“IT IS TERRIBLE TO WALK ALONE, terrible and tedious...Walking in community, with friends, with those Who love us: this helps us, it helps us to arrive precisely at the destination where we must arrive.” -When I was 18 years old, as a High School Freshman Seminarian in Manila, it was our seminary’s yearly tradition to start the year by walking on a 6 hour pilgrimage to a Marian Shrine on top of the hills of Antipolo, Rizal. =We started at 7pm. It was raining and dark. Not a lot lights on the road. There were about 150 of us. Some took 6 hours to walk, some more than that. -These are the things that I learned: 1-NEVER WALK ALONE. -You might get lost. You might get robbed. You might get hit by a vehicle. -Walking seems easier to do with somebody 2-IT IS EASIER TO WALK WITH A GOOD HEART -I ended up walking with 2 classmates. We prayed, we sang, we told stories. And we did not allow anybody to complain. -Plus, always remind each other to be safe. 3-IT IS OK TO ASK FOR DIRECTIONS -It is also ok to correct wrong directions III. CHURCH, THIS IS MY DREAM HERE AT ST. MARTINS! -I want us to walk together! =The spiritual life, the Life of a Disciple was not designed by the Lord Jesus to be walked alone. -I want us to walk together with a Good Heart! =So we can pray, sing, and tell our stories together -I want us to ask the Lord Jesus for directions together and to correct also those directions that are wrong! =Why? We all want to go to Heaven together and live a Happy Life here on earth. -Today you have already heard our young people: Nicole, Stephan, and David as they told us their joy of walking together and their dream of inviting more young people to walk the path of Discipleship =Before the blessing at the end of the mass, a group of men will invite and tell you their dream of walking together. -Come let us walk with the Lord Jesus together! PRAYER God of our destiny Thank you for making me my brother’s keeper! Give me the grace to walk with my brothers and sisters in Christ, so we could all go to heaven together And make create a holy and happy life here on earth. I ask this in Jesus’ name….Amen.
