My Homily this Weekend of Pentecost (6.8.14): THERE IS POWER IN DARING TO DO WHAT YOU LOVE TO DO ...YOUR PASSION! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After 50 days of Easter, today we have the Feast of Pentecost! Happy Birthday to Us, the church! We are now 1,981 years old! Ah, still no wrinkles!!! The Scriptures today talk about the Burning Power of the Holy Spirit, how He appeared to the disciples in a strong wind and tongues of fire! 1. Church, there is Power in Daring to Do What you Love to Do...Your Passion! -As you can see, I have been talking about the Power of Living the Resurrection Life. It is the end of this series. Here I’ve preached about your Easter Power to Bouncing from the potholes of your life, the Easter Power Courage, the Easter Power of Being Broken for Others, of Having Friends of the Good Shepherd, of the Easter Power of Celebrating who you Are, and last week, the Power of being Jesus to Somebody. Today I want to talk about Pentecost as the Power of Daring to Do What you Love to Do, your Passion! 2. CHURCH, I BELIEVE THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT HAS CREATED IN YOUR HEART A PASSION THAT BURNS TO FULFILLMENT! -My Friend, WHAT IS YOUR PASSION? =Without passion, you won’t go anywhere in life. -Let me rephrase my question: =WHATS THE ONE THING YOU LOVE TO DO, YOULL DO IT EVEN IF YOU DONT GET PAID? -Here’s another scenario: You won the lottery and its 400 million dollars! =Here’s my big question: What will you do? =Your answer will uncover your passion. -For example, if I had all the money in the world, I’ll still be a priest who loves to celebrate the Mass, preach, and do ministry to the poor, especially in third world countries. I bet even if I’m 110 years old—and I still can say the Mass, preach, and minister to the poor, I will still do it. Its my passion! -My Friend, don’t look around for the $400 million dollars anymore BECAUSE THE REAL TREASURE IS WITHIN YOU...YOUR PASSION! -Examples: A-When I was in High School, my Mom was pressuring me to be Nurse so we can immigrate here in the United States. Being in the medical profession is one of the surest tickets to immigrate here 20-30 years ago. The problem is I’m afraid of blood and needles and doctors. Now that’s a big problem. I tried by getting some science college courses: Biochemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Chemistry, Biology, etc.. I only passed those courses because I was so charming to the teachers! I thought I almost died when we disected a cat!!! Obviously, science is not my passion. B-Monday this week, I was with Sister Rose and Caroline Levy planning about the next FFP/CCD school year. In one of those reflective moments, it dawned on me: Gosh, I love being a Pastor, I love being a Priest, I love bringing the Lord Jesus to our Young People. -For me its not a job, it is my passion...my joy! 3. MY FRIEND, THERE IS POWER IN DARING TO DO WHAT YOU LOVE TO DO...YOUR PASSION! -I said DARE because there has been a lot of times in which we compromise our dreams and passions because on the altar of practicality, or outside influence, or/and fear. =BE TRUE TO YOURSELF MY FRIEND, BE TRUE TO THE HOLY SPIRIT! -So what do you love to do? PRAYER -Loving Father, it was you who sent the Holy Spirit of Wind and Fire to the apostles 1981 years ago. You burned their hearts with the love of Jesus and his Gospel of Life. Enflame our hearts again with the same Holy Spirit so that the Passion you have planted in us, grow to give you perfect praise. In Jesus’ name...Amen.
