My Japanese regimen, at the time I was actually learning it - TopicsExpress

My Japanese regimen, at the time I was actually learning it consisted alternatively of grammar and word usage units- for example, there would be a unit on (verb/clause) no koto o (verb) -and then realistic reading passages- such as a school students diary, letters to pen friends, essays, etc. At the start of each chapter I was given a list of relevant vocabulary and a set of 10 (or something) kanji. In the reading passages, specific- but not necessarily important -vocab needed for the passage are given. In this way, all vocab and grammar is taught for the unit, and any other words are given, so that it is always possible to read and understand the unit. Further, all kanji is in use at the start of the book, with their furigana being removed as they are introduced through the chapters. Thus, recurrent kanji can be learnt ahead of its chapter, and students can recognise them before they are taught. David Jeffray and Masumi Sorell are awesome. Also, the grammar unit/reading section layout became really ingrained with me, and Id love a good French textbook in a similar vein.
