My Last Post Amazing how the few can ruin it for the many: I have received a lot of criticism the past few weeks in the way of Facebook messages and comments (mostly Facebook messages). A few have been particularly degrading in nature, but Ive attempted to handle all of them with grace. Apparently, those efforts have failed. Look, my forecasts for this Fall/Winter have so far worked out for 90% of Texas and Oklahoma; and theres still over 2.5 months left for realistic threats of Winter storms from central TX on north. Im sorry if youre in the 10% area that hasnt worked out, i.e. the DFW area, but as I have said numerous times before, I am not God and have absolutely no control over the weather. There is simply no way I can be 100% accurate in everyone’s backyard. BTW, Im in that 10% area also. Ive never been a status quo forecaster, and never will be. Thats why over this Fall and Winter so far, my forecasts have been superior to everyone elses in the SP. In fact, over the past several years I have badly beaten my competition, and have written proof of it. Unfortunately, I may miss the snow forecast this week in north TX. As frustrating as that is, it doesnt compare to the frustration of hitting 90% of my forecasts and being hammered for the 10% I miss. Heres the reality: I spend hours a day trying to get you better informed about Southern Plains weather. Sometimes however, I just miss a forecast. If I made a great salary, like most in this industry do, then the negative comments would just be part of doing business and Id laugh all the way to the bank. Unfortunately however, I dont make a dime at this. Putting up with all the negativity, when I do this for free, has taken the fun out of it. Why I allowed myself to put up with this crap for so long........and for free........is beyond me. Therefore, with that in mind, I have decided to just shut it down. No more forecasts from this moment forward. Any future negative comments and negative Facebook messages will just be deleted with no response. Keep this in mind: Theres never been a perfect football player, politician, teacher, Pastor, musician, salesman, coach, home-builder, public servant, or meteorologist. We all screw up. So to those who have been so critical, I really do feel sorry for you. Life has to be awful when all you want to do is sit around and be critical of others for things you will never be able to do. Thanks to the vast majority, who have been so supportive and positive even when I screw up. I will let this be another lesson to me that social media should mostly be a positive experience, not a degrading or demeaning one.
