My Martin Luther King, Jr. Day racial-progress confession is; My god-daughter, who is #white & only 19, scolded me once on using the n-word (with an _er at the end), because she honestly didnt feel the need for me to introduce race at that moment (or ever), to make the point that I was making to her. I tried to convince her that Im Caribbean, and that is how I looked at that particular situation, but shes Canadian & wasnt giving me any excuses. I eventually apologized to her for speaking offensive about her #black socializing decision. My point is: I wont ever pretend to be holier-than-thou about my own perspective on #racism, but it may be her generation (or the generation aftr that), who finally realizes full racial #equality. I dont #hate people of other races (or my own race), I carefully discern - theres a difference (in my opinion). However, I am comfortable humbling myself to learn from others who are less-challenged by #racial interaction, and would love to see the day when everyone can see social-interactions the way my god-daughter effortlessly does.
