My Meditation Story so Far: Over the coming months well be sharing experiences of students, to give you a flavour of what Kadampa meditation is all about. This week Anne Lamerton tells how meditation gave her inner peace: My Kadampa Meditation journey began last October with attending the weekly (GP) classes at Fareham College. I had picked up a card about Peace at Costa coffee in Fareham, and wanted to go. I was so inspired by Gen Lekma with being so down to earth (despite the robes!), her sense of humour, light heart and her calmness. Just being in the same space felt peaceful. I signed up for the retreat at the centre in January, without having a clue of what to expect. I was a little unsure as I entered the meditation room with the shrine and all the offerings, and then we began chanting! I just sat with it all and admired the beauty and enjoyed the calm. The first 2 days were challenging for me as I struggled to keep awake during the meditation sessions, not really knowing what I was supposed to do or feel. Then on the third day, something shifted and I really felt I got it (whatever it was!) After the week long retreat I experienced a clarity of mind I hadnt had for a long time, if ever! I felt at peace with myself and so calm. I started my own daily morning practice, which has been variable in my effectiveness. (I see this as an opportunity to practice patience!) Regardless, I have continued to feel much less stressed and anxious, more peaceful and joyful and clearer about what I am here for.
