My Memories of Vijayawada I am from Tirupati...but I accept the Vijayawada Capital Decision of Chandra Babu. CBN has taken a logically correct decision that is possible in these circumstances. This sort of skirmish voices will be there at all times. In fact there were much more in 1953 and later in 1956 too. Leaving those inconsequential voices i think it is a decision that people largely accepts. I personally have good memories of Vijayawada. Working in TVS Tyres during 1996-2000; office in Bandar Road, home in Brindavan Colony, opposite to the then Khandari hotel (now Fortune Murali). It’s a foodies paradise out there in Vijayawada. I had it all during my tenure. The mallepuvvu laanti idli in Babai hotel of Gandhi Nagar, Kunda Biriyani in Ilapuram hotel, there use to be a Dosa Bandi near Ilapuram, where you need to wait for atleast 20 minutes in peak hours; the Anupama hotel in upstairs in Gandhi Nagar, chicken in Dolphin hotel; busy Bus Station and busy busy Railway station, late night Upma we use to have in Bus station after roaming, the then busy street of Beasent road, quaint Satyanarayana puram home before marriage; the evening punugulu, ever available tea and good filter coffee, Ofcourse can we forget the Cinema when we talk of Vijayawada!?, The new movies in Swarna Palace Alankar etc to the second cinema release in Durga Kala mandir (is it still there?) to Venkateswara theatre near PWD grounds etc (I think it’s now a Commercial complex) The busy Kaleswarao Market, the cloth market, the one town, the book publisher of shops of Eluru road (people use to say they were bustling in 80s with book buyers & sellers; but it was extinct by then even) The one thing that I cant forget in Vijayawada was the cycle Rickshaws. There used to be hundreds then…in my last month visit I could spot a few still..even now..!! The Beasent road needs a special mention. It use to remind me of Chandini chowk in Delhi. But even in chandini chowk, there are no so may gullies… Worth mentioning is the Automobile market, the 2 &4 Wheeler market in the lanes and by lanes adjacent to Beasent Road; and the 6 wheeler market in Auto Nagar after Patamata, both are really big markets in those days. We use to spot so many north Indians and Sardaaji’s from Delhi roaming there in the Auto market. The Railway station which is one of the busiest stations in India, the Durga Temple, the Krishna River, the Ferry, the Kondapalli fort, though in extreme ruins, the Vijayawada club, the land mark of PWD grounds, the Vijayawada Book Exhibition all ause to be good land marks and are still the same today. People who are used to Hyderabad weather will definitely find it difficult to adjust to the heat of Vijayawada. With Life just starting in those days, an Air Conditioner was out of bounds except a coller. With A/Cs becoming part of middle and upper middle calss lives, people relocating may easily get away from the heat of blazewada.! . Its almost 15 years since I left Vijayawada. In fact I started my life after marriage in Vijayawada, had the blissful years in Vijayawada…before moving out in search of greener pastures… And now again to Vijayawada, the Capital of Andhra Pradesh …now again in search of greener pastures…!!!! nvijaykumar/2014/09/my-memories-of-vijayawada.html
