My Mom liked to put a wreath on her brother Dougs grave at Ft. Snelling for Christmas; wed go there when she was with us for Thanksgiving. This was the last time she was able to do so in 2007 at age 88. Doug was the oldest of her 5 five brothers and two years younger than Mom. He was killed in the Battle of the Bulge in January 1945 and was originally buried in Belgium. He was returned to the United States a few years later at his parents request and buried at Ft. Snelling near a friend of his from Aitkin (one of the Kelseys) who was also killed in WW II. My brother Doug is named for him.
