My Mom was Pacific Northwest born and bred, relocating from Seattle to Anchorage, Alaska when she met and married my Dad. I was a PNW girl by proxy - born in Seattle, spending every summer with my grandparents in Allyn, WA, and later attending high school in Olympia, WA - but Alaska was the first place I ever lived. Almost all of my childhood memories are contained in that wild and wondrous place: snow sledding and ice skating, salmon fishing and even feeding a gigantic moose sliced apples from out of the window of our car. Many, many happy memories, and yes, some dark ones, too. In the fifteen years since Ive made Los Angeles my home, Ive wanted to return to Alaska, but there was always someplace else to go, something else to do. I suppose returning there to screen Speak No Evil, a film I produced - still one of the most difficult things Ive ever done - at the Anchorage International Film Festival is as good of a reason as any. Ill be there soon, Anchorage. I cant wait to see you.
