My Morning Paper 04th March 2014 A Message of Hypocrisy “Bahamians should pay $200 fee to gamble” The Tribune, 28th February, 2014 Excerpt from this article: “Gaming Chairman Dr. Andre Rollins say he will soon recommend that Bahamians be allowed to gamble in casinos for a fee of $200. The fee, he told the Big T yesterday, would deter people from gambling and help finance research into gambling addiction and programs to treat it. He said imposing the fee would ensure the government could not only stop discrimination against Bahamians, but also lessen the negative social effects of gambling legalisation.” To add insult to injury, the government is now considering a two hundred dollar ($200) fee to allow the residences of the Bahamas the privilege to legally gamble in the casinos in their own country. From the first betrayal of the Bahamian people by the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) on this matter; when the Hobby Horse Race Track was close and promised to be relocated only to have its gaming licence transferred across the street to the Play Boy Casino and gambling becoming illegal for Bahamians in the Bahamas, to this latest betrayal by same said party with a new set of ‘players’. With this latest betrayal, where this government botched a simple process to make on line gaming (numbers) legal but in failing to do so has already given the rights to allow on line gambling to be offered in hotels owned by foreigners but hold on I thought that it was the Free National Movement (FNM) that made decisions that were in the best interest of foreigners, I thought only under the FNM, Bahamians need not apply; I guess we can apply but just be prepared to pay for the right. While this government continues to use the buzz word of ‘hypocrites’ to label anyone that disagrees with their agenda, I wonder what would we/should we call this type of behaviour? END
