My Morning Paper January 26th 2015 Bahamas Carnival? While the government and their agents seek to steer the focus of the nation toward the Free National Movement (FNM) and seem ‘hell bent’ on ‘spinning’ the circumstances surrounding recent events that have occurred within the FNM, I would like to direct your attention toward the mantra of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) during the 2012 election campaign; “Believe in Bahamians”; straight to the point, clean, simple, concise, effective but to date decaying more and more into the lie that it always was. While the Progressive Liberal Party still continues to ram “Believe in Bahamians” or “Bahamians First” down the throats of the masses they seek to impose upon the culture of the Bahamas a foreign festival in Carnival and also seek to fly in a foreign musical artist, Ms. Janet Jackson to headline the non-indigenous assault of a Caribbean Carnival. “Uproar in Carnival commission”, The Nassau Guardian. Excerpt from this article; “Trouble is brewing over the governments’ bid to successfully stage the first Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival. Three Festival Commission members have resigned, National Review can confirm.” It would seem no matter what this government put their hand on it just seems to become tarnished at their very touch. The idea of a summer festival it not a bad idea; the idea can work if it is totally Bahamian, promotes Bahamian culture and is managed properly and this ‘Carnival’ fails at achieving at all of these objective, as it is a rip off from another culture and its quite apparent that it is not being properly managed and this is a major concern with the amount on money being pumped into this project, about nine million dollars with very little going to Bahamian artists the question is where is this money going and can we really import another country’s festival, pay artist from another country to gain national attention and stay truly Bahamian? Is this possible? END
