My Movie Review: The Lone Ranger – is not the old radio or TV - TopicsExpress

My Movie Review: The Lone Ranger – is not the old radio or TV series Lone Ranger! It is an extravaganza using The Lone Ranger title. Tonto (Johnny Depp) is the star and Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer who played in J. Edgar and The Social Network) is the side kick. It’s 1869 in Texas as the Transcontinental Railroad is being built from Coast to Coast. Naturally there are bad men, and good Texas Rangers, and bad women, and Chinese men laying rails, silver mine, Indians, and a flying horse. For reasons I couldn’t figure out, Lone Ranger and Tonto ride double on this beautiful white horse that Tonto believes is a “spirit” horse. This horse can jump through fires, to and from the roof of a barn, across the top of freight cars on a moving train – and it looks real. Big train wrecks, lots of action, little love, and was way too long – 2 hours 30 minutes. It was sort of silly, but clean. I knew it had BAD critic reviews and it was better than I expected, but definitely too long. It could have easily been cut 30 minutes and you wouldn’t miss anything. I give 1 ½ *.
