My Name is University of Kashmir My name is University of Kashmir. I am situated on the banks of world-famous Dal Lake. I am unique. You may ask how? Let me explain. I was established with a mission to provide education and encourage research in the Himalayan State. But I don’t give a damn to it. I pay more attention to lawns and gardens. Cafeterias and CCD’s are my priority – in no case I can compromise over them. Students come here, sip coffee, meet their loved one’s, and part ways. I love this romantic ambience. I host over a half-dozen ATM’s. They are my life-blood.Coffee shops and they are relative. To speak in a plural way, we are a joint venture of a few families here. Families, yes! I allow no stranger to intrude into our group of families; no matter he/she is meritorious. In exceptional cases, I allow a stranger (one who is not in blood-relation) but again he/she must be someway linked to any of the professors here. Professors live forever here. There is no retirement age. They enjoy extensions after extensions. No matter, they are not able to teach even at aprimary level school. But theircoughing and gossip is enough for me. They only leave when their next of kins get the job here. Corruption and nepotism run deep into me. I love mediocrity. I don’t give a damn to merit. I know there isa meritorious and charming young generation of students unemployed (with good academic qualifications and scholarly originality). I don’t give a damn! I have also earned the fame of being a highly politicised institution. I have proscribed student activism. While at the same time, I have no qualms in allowing the congress icon wand other mainstream politicians vaunt for political mileage. I am still distressed on the Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s visit to the campus, a few years back. I am yet to come out of the shock. I will never allow that happen again. #sahibImran
