My October Horrorthon continued the other night with Mario Bavas - TopicsExpress

My October Horrorthon continued the other night with Mario Bavas Black Sunday. The one about a witch that resurrects and tries destroying the Super Bowl. Wait, I just confused two movies. Is it bad that when Barbara Steele appears in something, my first thought isnt oh its Barbara Steele from Black Sunday, but its Dr. Hoffman from the 1991 Dark Shadows! Seriously, I loved 91 Dark Shadows. Black Sunday is certainly quintessential Halloween viewing. Its a haunted house come to life, its the movie that Tim Burton has been chasing for decades; and I dont mean that as a bad thing, but the inspiration is clearly there, for better or worse at times. I grew up watching way more Lamberto Bava movies than Mario Bava movies, but Mario Bava is certain to Italian Horror what Sergio Leone is to the Spaghetti Western. You could watch this movie on mute and get your shit creeped out. Sound or no sound, those Barbara Steele eyes, and getting a nail mask pounded onto your face is enough to make anyone wince. Shit, maybe I should say to full title from the opening title card: The Mask of Satan, aka Black Sunday. Gotta love alternate cuts and alternate titles. https://youtube/watch?v=1Q5nV12AgVc
