My Question in Quora: Social Psychology: Why censor yourself - TopicsExpress

My Question in Quora: Social Psychology: Why censor yourself when others are so willing to do it for you? This is based on the fact that my opinions, which include the most hard data of many opinions I have seen, are consistently downvoted in an attempt to silence me. Clearly people dont know me. Im in China, and I still dont censor myself. For example, check out my question about why the dog radical is still in the word for Jewish in Chinese: 犹太. You will see some pretty vehement responses. When we want to silence someone, we attack their cognitive skills by implying they are crazy, we question their motivations by implying they are publicity mongers, and we just plain insult them. Of course, in the old days we would kill them, so being downvoted is admittedly better. Why are new ideas such an anathema to the populace? Where are the truly educated Quora users who can recognize a legitimate argument and respond with conscious reasoning rather than just gut reaction? I would love to know. View All 6 answers...
