My Real Dad Today we lost a great man, and the world is a little darker because of it. You may or may not know or have heard of him, but my Uncle Donald was perhaps one of the finest men Ive ever known. Uncle was kind, loving, and gentle. He was also firm and resolute. A man of integrity. He was everything that a man, husband, father, grandfather, friend, neighbor, and citizen should be. You are hard pressed to find anyone more noble or caring. For the last two years he showed me what it felt like to have a real father, in stark contrast to the monster I grew up with. I am filled with deep and abiding grief. I am in deep pain for my Aunt (who has shown me what its like to have a real mom), and for my wonderful Grandmother who has outlived her own son. I am sad for my Aunts and Uncles who Donald left behind. I am so sad for my cousins and their children who have lost such a wonderful father and grandfather. I am sad for my wife who for two years had the experience of having wonderful in-laws, and for my children who came to have wonderful grandparents on my side of the family. I am sad for my sister, who shares the same experiences and sentiment that I do. I am BLESSED with this family. It is wonderful to see how this family has rallied around each other in loving comfort. I miss you Uncle. I love you with all my heart. Thank-you so much for loving and caring for me and my family. Thank-you for the man you were. Thank-you for being a model of a great man.
