My Report. lengthy but bear with me. it is an end of year report after all. right, 1 2 3 testing testing lol.. right, here we go 1| In general an ok display it appeared against Burton but blunt in attack. 2| Defensively good. but Phil, little point in keeping conceding goals to a minimum if we dont score enough at the other end. your idea seems to be to shut the opposition out and hope we pinch it. 3|Ron and Phil, I think we need a Man Utd, alex ferguson type mentality. stick to a balanced system and let the opponents worry about us. an us v the rest siege mentality. 4| an arm round the shoulder for Ben Coker. out for 4 months but played as if hed never been away. 5| Chris Phillips, further to your comments in the echo tonigt, Barry corr up front alongside a forward with Jack Payne behind. maybe , as I mentioned, Ryan Leonard , with his athleticism, can play in a wider position and now we have coker back on the left. we have Clifford, Timlin, Atkinson , Hurst , Deegan etc who can play inside. 6| Phil , I see in todays echo, you and Hasselbaink are tactically aware managers. attacking wise I see that lol so promotion is a certainty then? phew there was me thinking stifling the attack was deliberate. and no doubt clubs from higher levels are keeping tabs on your situation.you say we should be up there come may, with respect so we ought to be. as for Hasselbaink, hes only been in management 5 minutes. 7| 6th in the table is ok relatively speaking but tweaks n fine tuning is required to get the team to where I think it should be. top 3, the automatic promotion places.at the moment were top 6 nowhere near on complete merit. 8| Phil, Ryan Leonard is a very good athlete driving forward, why is he playing defensively in front of the back 4 when we have others whod be specialists in that role? 9| David Worrall won the player of the month award for good performances on the right. why has he been switched to the left ? 10| Can you enlighten us as to the total disappearance from the matchday squads concerning conor Clifford ? much improved early in the season, banged in a couple of goals and now not even a sub. 11| Phil, you claim we lack a cutting edge. I n we have been saying that for months. I appreciate you were unlucky with Elliot Lees injury but AGAIN the system up front needs adjusting.AGAIN Barry Corr needs assistance. I know Myles Weston and Shaq Coulthirst have their critics but at least id been someone . AGAIN Jason Williams ? whoever is chose to play alongside Barry would be boosted in support further by Jack behind them and for me Ryan Leonard getting down the right with his athleticism and Ben Coker the other side. any type of forward up there on his own will be a struggle and effectively halving our chances of scoring healthily so dont see the logic in bringing myles on for barry on Friday. let them see out the remaining minutes together. If a forward is brought in in January play him up front phil, not midfield. 12| are set plays being practised in training? we dont seem to threaten at corners like, say, when we had defenders like Mark Phillips, Adam Barrett and ryan cresswell scoring regularly from them. 13|happy with a draw phil? in this weak division especially, with a balanced system and personell, we should be looking to win ALL home games. just see what 2 forwards can do playing together over time . 14| interesting in your column last week all last weeks training revolved around was defence, defence, defence and defence. as said, no point conceding goals if we cant score at the other end. attack and defence must be looked out and cared for equally. at the moment to much pressure on defence to hold firm at all times. 15|the vibe I got from that column was that things appear dictatorial.in addition, several players prevented from speaking to the echo recently for me made it appear its MAYBE too dictator-like. players will respond more relaxed if you place an element of trust in them. letting them largely play the way they see it and letting them express themselves as best they can on and off the pitch supporting one another. making sure they enjoy things off the pitch and as a result more enjoyment will be felt on the pitch.hopefully providing the platform to give us all the best chance of achieving the desired results more effectively on a more consistent basis.. but that freedom comes with 2 conditions, that discipline and respect is shown to all , at all times, on and off the pitch. 16| finally, the team travels to me dads old team , Cambridge united on boxing day. lets hope once the final whistle goes at the Abbey Stadium, our supporters continue to enjoy Christmas with another 3 points in the bag.
