My Rescue Tuesday is running a bit late tonight! HighCaliber Horse - TopicsExpress

My Rescue Tuesday is running a bit late tonight! HighCaliber Horse Rescue in Escondido, CA has a friend to feature for our other rescue horses spot today. Here is what they had to say about JD: JD is a 3 year old gelded hinny (at least we suspect he is a hinny vs. Mule). He is the perfect equine to share on Satans page, considering they both encourage their humans to drink tequila - and lots of it. (Dont blame JD, we do that a lot around here anyway! Pass the limes!) He was purchased by a private party from a feedlot last year. He came to HiCaliber as a 2 year old for gelding and 30 days of training where he learned to tie, bathe, lead, give his feet, load etc. He has been been in pasture ever since while his owners looked for suitable boarding for him. Unfortunately, it has been a year and they still have no located somewhere affordable. They are having difficulty covering his expenses and have asked that we put him up for adoption as part of our rehoming assistance program. We try to be a progressive rescue, and one of the ways we accomplish that is by assisting owners before the need becomes exigent. JD is a perfect example of how someone get in over their head. He could easily have been bumped around, auctioned off or given away by his owner - all stressful and bleak outcomes. Thankfully, his owner recognized that they needed help and were not in a position to responsibly place JD. JD enjoys spending his day humping other geldings, much to their annoyance. We remind him often that he is gelded but JD is convinced that practice makes perfect. He can be a butt face about his feet, but he s a 3 year old muley thing, so we dont blame him - he didnt get much handling early in life, but he is not malicious in his protests.. When handled regularly he is a doll, but he will need a tune up on ground manners by someone confident enough to set boundaries. He is not aggressive, just stubborn at times. JD is really smart and learns quickly so dont be discouraged by his initial needs. He ponies well, is great with other horses and an easy keeper.
