My Robin Williams story. When I lived in San Francisco I worked for the Nature Company in the California Academy of Sciences. One day because I didnt have time to eat breakfast ( I am very pale in the morning until I eat). A customer or two asked my boss if I was ok because I was so pale . So after the third such inquiry my boss thought it would be best to send me home for the day , rather then have another customer voice a concern. Yes, I was sent home for being pale. While I was waiting for the Muni at 9th and Irving I looked at the display of On The Run shoe store ( planning on my next purchase with my upcoming paycheck). On the Run shoes had a policy where you could try the shoes on and walk out to the sidewalk to see how they felt. I saw someone come outside , I saw shoes first and looked up and saw Robin Williams trying a pair of shoes to see how it felt on the sidewalk. I was dumbfounded. I didnt know what to say should I say Nanu , Nanu? I didnt want to be that person , but I wanted to say something. I opened my mouth and no words came out. Nothing. He pointed at me and laughed and went back into the shoe store . Embarrassed and remembering that I needed stamps I went to the post office. The postlady asked what I needed and asked her if she knew Robin Williams was at the shop next door. She said he shops there a lot and that he sometimes would go to the clubs to try out new material and that one of the clubs where he got his start was closing for good that night , maybe thats why he was buying new shoes. I left the postoffice in time to see Robin Williams leave the shoe store with a plastic bag containing his new purchase in hand. He looked at me again , pointed his finger and laughed .
