My Run-in with The Police by AmiriAmani This summer, I was confronted by a security officer who attempted to use his position of authority in an improper manner. I normally shop at a Fast-Trac gas station here in Rochester, NY -- which is a convenient point of access for me in 2 areas of the city. On this one particular evening, I had received a call from Brother Heru Ra Kemet who informed me that he was on his way to meet me at the convenient gas station. Once Brother Heru arrived, he exited his vehicle to enter mine. As we talked with each other, an off-duty security-guard (I know this because I shop here often as previously stated; sometimes by self, and other times with Brother Heru or my cousin Leap Stewart), pulled up, got out of his car and proceeded towards my side of the vehicle. The off-duty security guard had the look of a demon in his eyes as he approached me, stating, You cant park here. I replied, Why cant I, I am a paying customer at this convenient store and shop here all the time. The off-duty security guard responded, Youre trespassing! I returned, How in the hell am I trespassing if I shop here at this store -- buy gas at this store? The off-duty security guard intensified his position in a more boastful tone, You either get off the property or Im calling the police! Aggravated by the threat, I exclaimed, You can call who the ___ you want; I dont fear you or the police! He made a motion towards his hip and I made a motion towards my door and hit the record button on my device and put it to his face -- he yelled, Im calling the police! I said call the dam police and Ill call the media -- I AINT GOIN NOWHERE! At that point, Brother Heru suggested that we just leave due to the ignorance of these toy soldiers. I submitted to my Brothers suggestion, but moved at a very slow pace eyeballing this play play pig -- my fire was burning strong and I was ready for war (see what were coming to in america?). As I exited the parking lot and onto the street, flashing lights appeared in my rearview. I hit the record button again, called an ally, shut the car off, put the keys on the dash and placed my hands on the steering wheel. By the time the state trooper walked up, he realized that I knew how to follow protocol and thus, did not trip. The state troopers approached my vehicle, flashed their lights through both sides of my vehicle and asked me, What seems to be the problem? I stated to the officer exactly what happened and told him that I felt disrespected as a paying customer and responded accordingly. Simultaneously, the off-duty security guard came running over to the state troopers in his attempt to place emphasis on the story. The state troopers froze the off duty security guard in his tracks and told him to shut up; they were handling it now. The state troopers then requested to see my license and registration and I complied. He noticed my endorsements, looked at me in an apologetic-demeanor and said, Sir, Ill be right back. Once the state trooper returned, he stated that there was nothing legally that he could do because I didnt break any laws, handed me my documents and said, Have a good night Sir. I responded, You as well officer, respect. #PoliceBrutality #AbuseofPower
