My Son, The Beloved One, Brings True Happiness Matthew 3:13-17 Baptism of Jesus Baptism is an outward and visible sign of God’s grace given to man through Christ. Water is essential for life. A great percentage of our bodies is water. Water is essential for life. Why do we need water? *from nutrition about You need water to regulate body temperature and to provide the means for nutrients to travel to your organs and tissues. Water also helps transport oxygen to your cells, removes waste and protects your joints and organs. 13 At that time Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan River so that John would baptize him. 14 John tried to stop him and said, “I need to be baptized by you, yet you come to me?” 15 Jesus answered, “Allow me to be baptized now. This is necessary to fulfill all righteousness.” Water baptism is a sign of Jesus’ fulfillment of God’s plan for the righteousness of Jesus, the Christ, to be transferred to mankind. 1. bring to completion or reality; achieve or realize (something desired, promised, or predicted). synonyms: achieve, attain, realize, actualize, make happen, succeed in, bring to completion, bring to fruition, satisfy 2. carry out (a task, duty, or role) as required, pledged, or expected. synonyms: carry out, perform, accomplish, execute, do, discharge, conduct, complete, finish, conclude, perfect So John agreed to baptize Jesus. 16 When Jesus was baptized, he immediately came up out of the water. Heaven was opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God coming down like a dove and resting on him. 17 A voice from heaven said, “This is my Son whom I dearly love; I find happiness in him.” Baptism is a sacrament or physical sign of our declaration of our discovery of happiness in God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We join our hearts and minds to Him and His faithful love. *Baptism-Bible Verses Regarding baptism. • Romans 6:3-6:6 tells us that through baptism we become like him in death and life. • 1 Corinthians 12:13 declares that we were made part of one body through baptism. • Galatians 3:27 reads, “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” Baptism is an outward sign of our pledge of allegiance to God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The more we study God’s Word and pray for guidance, the more we crave it. Think about a time when you have become very thirsty. You probably felt very weak. But, when you drank water, which has no taste, you ‘tasted’ the refreshing feeling that flows over you and through you. Colossians 1:15-20-A Hymn Praising The Son of God In Colossians there is a song about Christ’s work within our hearts. Jesus is: *The Son of the invisible God *The Son through whom all things were created –the visible and the invisible. *Think about pure air which cannot be seen. The Holy Spirit is part of the Triune God. The Holy Spirit is called the Wind of God or Breath of God. from Ilumina Bible Study- In the book of Genesis, the wind from God was what caused the waters of the Flood to stop rising (Genesis 8:1). This same wind from God blew locusts all over Egypt (Exodus 10:13) and sent quail for the Israelites to eat (Exodus 14:21). God blew wind from his nostrils to part the waters of the Red Sea so that the Israelites could walk across on dry land. Hymn about Christ’s work 15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the one who is first over all creation, 16 Because all things were created by him: both in the heavens and on the earth, the things that are visible and the things that are invisible. Whether they are thrones or powers, or rulers or authorities, all things were created through him and for him. 17 He existed before all things, and all things are held together in him. 18 He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the one who is firstborn from among the dead so that he might occupy the first place in everything. 19 Because all the fullness of God was pleased to live in him, 20 and he reconciled all things to himself through him whether things on earth or in the heavens. He brought peace through the blood of his cross. In verse 19-20 of Colossians 15 there is a message of hope. At Christ we celebrate the birth of hope. The fullness of God came to earth in mankind. Through this birth came peace through the blood of: * Jesus, the Son *Christ or Lord-Messiah-whose job was to pay the debt of mankind’s sin *Holy Spirit or breath of God My prayer for you is that you enjoy this season and celebrate the birth of hope. Let the ‘breath’ of God flow over you, around you and in you. There is nothing sweeter than the breath of an infant. Breathe on Me Breath of God from Ilumina: EDWIN HATCH was a learned man who could string together sentences filled with many-syllable words. After all, he was a distinguished lecturer in ecclesiastical history at Oxford and a professor of classics at Trinity College in Quebec. His lectures “On the Organization of Early Christian Churches” were translated into German by the noted theologian Harnack. Few other English theologians had won European recognition for original research. But when it came to expressing his faith, Hatch was “as simple and unaffected as a child.” This hymn is filled with one-syllable words and is a simple, heartfelt prayer. Hatch knew that, while the words of his hymn were simple, the meaning was profound. At man’s creation, God breathed and man “became a living being” (Genesis 2:7). At our re-creation through Jesus, the breath of God brings spiritual life and power. https://youtube/watch?v=kElZxXHHxbk Breathe on Me Breath of God
