My Students: Caution: Kid Presidents are giving the world a reason to dance. We are reminded of this mission every day as we walk into the classroom. Our job is not only to learn (and love to learn), but to leave the world around us better than we found it. The Kid Presidents are a group of 23 vibrant, loving, and extremely active Kindergarten students. They come to school every day with a smile on their face, despite facing many hardships and heartbreaks at home. Our school is the lowest-economic school in our district and the Kid Presidents have experienced a lot in their 5 years. As the Kid Presidents teacher, I see the inequities they have been dealt. The battle for an equal and excellent education for all is an uphill one, and communities like ours are the ones most heavily impacted. As a class and school community however, we are continuously striving to make the world awesome. We strive to do what is right even when no one is watching, and we work every day to get to 1st Grade and college- on or above grade-level. My Project: Having an easel in our classroom will enhance community learning, and will allow quality instruction to happen whole group. A small group easel will allow Ms. B. to provide better visuals for students as they work on mastering new standards in small groups. The Kid Presidents spend part of the day in center activities, both English/Language Arts and Math. Having stimulating, colorful, and diverse activities will keep them engaged and learning. A wireless listening center and computer speakers will bring the important element of technology into our classroom. The Kid Presidents have big dreams, just ask them. We need to know how to read, write, and count better than anyone in order to make it to 1st Grade and then college. But not just any college- LSU, Duke, Dartmouth, William and Mary, and University of Georgia are the top schools on the Presidents minds. With the addition of these resources to our classroom, we will be one step closer to the college class of 2030. The Kid Presidents work so hard, and they deserve the best. Thank you so much
