My TBT in rhyme and rhythm. A Coca Cola, on a desert Highway, - TopicsExpress

My TBT in rhyme and rhythm. A Coca Cola, on a desert Highway, from the leaking ice chest –it’s making puddles on the seat Air conditioner is broken so the windows are open, dipping t-shirts in the water just to beat the heat Singing to Merle Haggard on the AM radio, couldn’t hear a thing but what a way to go Dr. Pepper was the last thing going In the horse trough floating The beer had been picked through I was only eleven so a cola was refreshing But the tab broke off what was I supposed to do? So I grabbed a Diet- thought I died and gone to Hell From the horrible reaction in an aluminum can But soda was forbidden except for special occasions (And a barn dance down the river Was a celebration) Orange soda in a bottle, only a quarter, at the local gas station in ‘79 I tried the Grape one and the Strawberry too They made my tongue turn purple And my lips dyed blue Fate can be a cruel girl wouldn’t you know it, that is when my first “True love” drove around the block He was in high school (and I was a little younger) My first Orange Crush ran flat before it could fill up Now that I am older I refrain from the sodas And my radio, is still tuned to anything but pop But the wigs in Nashville like the flavor of a small town And the songs about proms or fishing off the tailgate of a truck I’ll write the real stuff And drink of the same From the river of my memories, right or wrong. And with the bait of name drops, young hearts and the desert I just wrote my quintessential country pop song. Let’s keep the music swinging and the dancers swaying It’s a Small town and 7up Saturday night Stetsons and Tony Lamas- on the dance floor flowing Like a river and soda bubbling on till daylight.
