My TKRs (total knee replacement) recovery curve is nothing short - TopicsExpress

My TKRs (total knee replacement) recovery curve is nothing short of astonishing to me. I was WALKING on it today. Gingerly and slowly, with a limp, but WALKING on it, full weight, 5 days post op. Thats just remarkable. Already have 20-65º extension/flexion, pain levels are steadily dropping. Should be off pain meds within a 7-10 days or so, even with the stress of PT; thats really what will keep me on them, the need to take the edge off so I can push the envelope each day in stretching/strengthening therapy. It strikes me as easier to bounce back from the TKR than my ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction procedure of 1989; the ligaments and arthritic/damaged joint surfaces are gone, replaced with shiny plastic and metal alloy parts. Just feels like its going to be an easier rehab than that was at the time. While its not easy, the path forward looks bright, Ive been down it before, and this time I think it will be smoother. I do get the distinct impression that I wont fully grasp how much that old damaged knee was holding me back until I finally get the new one rehabbed and functional, particularly riding a bicycle hard. Well, ok as hard as I can ride one.
