My Take On Racing!!!! Since the running of the Melbourne cup I have had lots of invites from various anti racing groups to join and show my support. I have no problem with horse racing. I have friends and their families that are supported by the racing industry and the jobs it provides I believe horses were designed to run, I also believe more can be done to better the appearance of racing. Horses that dont enter a start gate should be trained to go straight in. I see more injuries float loading then at a track so you cant say horse injuries only happen racing. There is nothing wrong with racing horses, I love to go for a run on the trail and see who wins. The racing industry gives thorough breds a chance at life and better training is what is needed not banning racing all together. With proper training these horses could go onto be successful saddle horses and many do after their racing career is over. The horse that got spooked and broke its leg yesterday should have been better prepared for such an energetic environment. Racing puts food on the table as does many other endeavours that have possible negative impacts on things such as the environment. We all drive cars knowing the environmental impact so we cant be hypocritical of others when we arent perfect ourselves. I see more injuries caused by inadequate fencing and poor horsemanship then racing. If our horsemanship improves so does our horses lives. So often we see the speck in someone elses eye and completely ignored the log in our own. Best wishes Mat
