My Thoughts - Pastor Darrell Boswell What a busy week we have - TopicsExpress

My Thoughts - Pastor Darrell Boswell What a busy week we have had at SFCC. Im amazed, humbled, and extremely blessed by the people of our church. What a great outreach weekend! In the busyness of this Christmas season I have seen our folks give unselfishly their time, treasures, and talents over the last few days. I have seen how they have emulated the Jesus servanthood model. On Friday night we had a float in the annual Santas Kingdom Christmas Parade. It was there that SFCC introduced Santas Kingdom to the Kingdom of God. Our float was the brainchild of Jennifer Spencer and was based on John 3:16. Our children dressed in costumes representing people from the four corners of the world. The message on the side of the float was that God so loved the World. . . Saturday the Womens Ministry under the direction of Jackie Talbert, hosted their annual Christmas Brunch and ornament exchange. This get together allowed our SFCC ladies and their guest to enjoy some great food and each others fellowship. In that setting, through their sharing special Christmas Memories, our ladies were reminded of Gods many blessings. Ladies from 18 to 80 were together in one mind and one accord, and it was powerful. Sunday night SFCC welcomed a houseful of guest for an evening of food, entertainment, and blessings. This event was our Angel Tree Banquet and gift giveaway. This ministry is designed to provide Christmas presents to children who have one or even both parents incarcerated. SFCC partners with Prison Ministries International to bless these less fortunate kids. Natasha Achord coordinates this ministry for our church. We could just go and buy presents and drop them off at their residence, but Natashas vision was to use this as an opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ. As the guest arrived they were greeted by volunteers who helped them get settled in and then invited the kids to play some games or do some crafts, without SFCC kids. Then the feast began! Our SFCC family provided a full blown meal for the children and their care givers. On the menu was ham, turkey, corn, dressing, sweet potatoes, green beans, hot yeast rolls, a mountain of sweet treats, cake, pies, and cookies of all kind. While the families ate their meal, there was a theatrical production going on. The play was based on the TV show Americas Got Talent. Tonya Marcuccio wrote and directed the play which showcased the talent, and in some cases lack of talent by our SFCC thespian troup. It was a great program interwoven with the message of grace and redemption. Then it was present time. Natasha, working with Prison Ministries, made sure that the children were aware these presents were coming from their incarcerated parent. Even though the parent and child could not be together, they are still loved. As the wrapping paper was torn away revealing those special gifts. You could just see the joy on the faces of these kids. To end the evening the kids stood in front of our huge Christmas Tree with their gifts and posed for a picture that will be sent to their parent in jail or the penitentiary. I know if you have taken time to read this entire post you can sense my pride in the actions and ministry of our church. There are so many people that participated in these events that I didnt recognize in this post. I know they didnt work so hard to bring attention to themselves. Rather they did it to bring attention to Christ. That they get it is why I am so proud of them. Tonight as I look at pictures from this great weekend of ministry, and the mental images of watching these people serving God by serving their fellow man I have prayed a prayer of blessing for each one of them. It is true of the first Advent that Jesus brings us hope, peace, joy, and love. . . and, He is still bringing it! May you be blessed this Christmas season and in turn be a blessing to others!
