My ability to read, let alone translate, Persian is extremely limited. It took me all day to translate the following couplet by Hafez satisfactorily into English. He was a fourteenth-century Sufi poet in what is now Iran, who loved and admired Jesus. The Sufi say they preserve the original teachings and remember the actual nature of Jesus, unlike most others -- and they may be right. گر روی پاک و مجرد چو مسیحا به فلک از چراغ تو به خورشید رسد صد پرتو If you go pure/bright and naked as the Messiah to Heaven, From your light a hundred rays will outshine the sun.
