My acceptance speech: “Words cannot adequately express my excitement to receive such a momentous honor. For our small company to be nominated amongst some world class dance companies has been thrilling. We owe an immense amount of gratitude to Goldstar for creating this award and for seeking us out. After all, we are a tiny theatre that seats just a few dozen people! For many this award is considered the Oscars of the dance world, and to be amongst the pantheon of the great dance and theatrical companies and choreographers that have won is humbling. On a personal level this award carries so much meaning for I started out my career in the world of dance late, so I was never able to join one of the great companies that are amongst the nominees. As I approach the end of my career as a dancer and to receive this award it serves as a personal validation of my nearly 35 years of dancing. I must thank Jana Edele who has been my muse, collaborator, and co-choreographer. Who would have thought eight years ago when over several margaritas we came up with the concept of the show that it would entertained thousands of people, become the most performed Nutcracker every year in Texas, and that it would become a cult hit that has now gained and earned a national award? I want to thank the cast and crew who have worked hard on this show, but I especially want to thank our audiences who have supported me and my company all these years. They deserve the award just as much as us for theyve always believed in us. Thank you! Gracias! Merci!”
