My access key to the Librarys system expired, which stopped my BookNapper app from working for a few days. Ive just got email that its been renewed. Coincidentally Im at the Bishan Library. So, while checking the app to see that its true that Ive got access back, I see that Chrisann Brennans book about life with Steve Jobs, plus Richard Dawkins memoir, which I didnt even know the Library had (the last time I checked) are available here. A serendipitous discovery. Wow! Great! So I hurried upstairs, in case other people grabbed them. This is Bishan, after all, where there are lots of real readers, unlike sleepy places like Woodlands and Jurong West. The Steve Jobs book was not in its shelf but theres a guy browsing it for the other Apple books. I saw a librarian wheeling in a trolley full of books to stock the shelves. I thought, the books probably in it. Yes it is. I grabbed it. One more minute and itll probably be gone. Thats the power of having the information. Other parts of life are like this. This incident is just a small thing but its an example of how life is often shaped, in its twists and turns, by the quality of the information one can get. So a software developers work is not just about building generic apps. Properly thought out, the product of that work can really change the quality of peoples lives. P.S.: theyre brand new books, too. Im probably the first person reading them. Smells great :)
