My advice as the mom of two girls...I try to give each of them equal attention, and I try not to lean too hard on Lizzie when it comes to taking care of Caroline. I want them to be sisters, just like any other sisters. The most important thing to remember is that your children are siblings first, and special needs and typical children second. The relationships with siblings are so special; there is no bond comparable in life to the one we share with our brothers and sisters. It is even more important that your children have good sibling relationships when one of them has special needs. Your daughter with special needs will need her brothers and sisters to be there for her throughout her life, after you are gone. It is essential for you to balance your family, so that your children can enjoy their sibling relationships...Make sure your let your children be kids together, so they can create a bond to last a lifetime.
