My afterthoughts on traveling to Korea: 1. The place to go, if youre planning to slim down. Why? - People there usually commute by public transport, hence a lot of standing and walking is done when traveling between places. - Especially for Malaysian, even if youre a fan Korean cuisine, the idea of having Korean food for 7 consecutive days, might not be something tolerable, as they usually taste (spicy and sour) the same due to the repetition of ingredient used in their cooking. Despite the point that it tastes the same, their food is actually quite healthy. 2. If you like shopping and make up, go with an empty luggage. - No matter if youre in Seoul or Busan, shopping is inevitable! - Places you should not miss if you love shopping: Edae/Ewha University Its near one of Koreas most famous university, hence youll be able to get a lot of cheap clothes here! Myeong-dong Also known as the shopping district, you can find most of the global brands here, but also local stuff, haven for local street food as well! You can also find a ginseng store here, ginseng tea would be a great gift for the elderly. Nam-Po-Dong (Busan) This area, well sells practically everything! No kidding, from fashions to cosmetic to souvenirs to cheap luggages! You can actually get cheap Korea merchandises here, (pouch, t-shirt, key chains, you name it) and it opens till late at night, very much like our local pasar Malam but better! Somyeon underground shopping (Busan) If you dont wish to walk far, this subway station has an underground shopping area, that sells very cheap yet unique clothings! *One thing Ive learned, is that cosmetic products are like daily necessitates to the Koreans, thus youll see at least 5 holika holikas or étude houses in an area. So if you missed something that you wanna buy, you dun actually need to walk far to look for one and its really much cheaper than in Malaysia! 3. The notion of good looking Koreans if youve been hearing people telling you that Korea has the highest population of good looking people around due to cosmetic surgery, well think again! Most of them dont really have plastic surgery, and they rely mainly on make up, especially eye make up. So nothing really extraordinary, just everyone look decently simple. And Im not sure if its because of their heavy make up, me and my friend actually look like teenagers when we were there. 4. It would be great if you know the language To be able to read, see, speak Korean would definitely be a plus, cause some of the shop can actually give you discount if you can speak very basic Korean. And yeah, best place to brush up your Korean too, and save time! 5. Go budget! If prefer to stay somewhere cheap but still retain your personal space, I would recommend hostel. Most of the hostel here, doesnt require you to share a room of 10. They also have twin rooms if you dont like to stay with strangers, plus, most of them are near to the subway station, all the better!
