My analysis Mijikenda vote will always decide Mombasa Gubernatorial contest: that was what cost Mr Shahbal the governors seat.by concentrating much of his campaign breath at the vote rich but cosmopolitan Mombasa island which harbours a quite number of Somalis,arabs indian and some non coastal people who most of them travel to their upcountry to vote Mr Shahbal was dubed to believe by consolidating the island vote his match to triumph was inevitable. The Joho camp pulled a surprise by nominating a woman, Hazel Katana to be the running mate of their flagbearer. This earned them political milage by appeasing the women voting block who view the prospective of one of them occupying the second most powerful seat in the county administrative set up and also enticed the vote rich Giriama community where Hazel belongs to. By striking an enviable political romance and close knitted working relationship with the senator who belongs the same party with his adversary,Mr Joho is poised to win over a huge chunk of voters who voted for Shahbal by virtue of senator Hassan Omar popularity and their Wiper party allignment. Mr Shahbal will need to retreat back to the situation room carry out hypothesis and give the Giriamas,Durumas swahilis and other Mijikenda community members an offer they cant turn down.
