My beautiful soulmate, friend and father of our children lost his battle with terminal cancer last night. My partner of 36 years was called home by his parents and whanau who came to take him on his beautiful journey. Do not cry whanau, but rejoice his life and treasure the special memories that you hold dear. He had 3 months to prepare me and our children for his passing, although very difficult to come to terms with, he showed me how. One thing that kept him going was August 3rd (that was his altermate goal, the engagement party of our youngest son Tonto and his beautiful bride to be, Tarin. The way dad decided he was ready, having his brother Dave and niece Lisa from NZ, making sure whanau were present when the news was broken to Tonto and so on and so on. Everyone had a part to play with Rich in the background leading the way. We still await the arrival of our big boy, but will ensure that when he arrives, we will be ready to greet him with all our aroha. He is the light of my life, the most awesome grampa to his grannies who will miss him dearly, and a special father to his sons. We have cried, laughed, sang and reminiced and we will continue to do this till our mahi is complete. When I am lost and alone, he will wrap his arms around me to keep me warm. When his children are sad, he will lift their spirits with his memory. When his grannies need him, he will be there holding their hand and showing them the way. I will treasure every moment and every memory I have of you my love. xoxoxoxoxooxoxoxoxox oxoxoxo
