My beloved father went to Heaven yesterday. Words cant express the loss, however our love letter obituary to him is below: On October 18, 2013, Richard John Olszewski, 77, of Hamilton, left the house he built and went to Heaven. Born in Acushnet, MA on June 5, 1936, Richard lived in New Bedford, MA, Trenton, and Hamilton. Ever inquisitive and committed to learning, Rich earned the BSA Eagle Scout Award, graduated from St. Hedwig’s School, TrentonCentral High School and Trenton State College culminating with a Masters’ Degree in Counseling gained over 13 years while raising his family, working full-time, and teaching part-time. Corporal Olszewski served with the U.S. Army in Panama during the Korean War. He was a self-employed master carpenter and cabinetmaker. His talents led to a teaching position at Hopewell Valley High School and Mercer County Vo-Tech School where Mr. O was the first General Building Construction instructor, a CIE Coordinator / Counselor and VICA mentor. Community and civic efforts, always a part of Rich’s life, included leader of BSA Explorers and Troops, baseball team Manager, Hamilton High School West Band Parents and groups to which his children belonged. As a member of the Hamilton Township Historical Society, Mr. O and students remodeled part of the John Abbott II House and built the houses’ scale model which is often seen in parades. They also created the “This House Built Before 1876” signs seen on many homes in Hamilton. Lt. Colonel Olszewski was Vice Commander of the Civil Air Patrol NJ Wing, mission pilot, NJ State Police OEM liaison, Level 1 Incident Commander, certified in instrument flying and float planes, and led encampments and training. Among other commendations, Rich received the highest honor of the Gill Robb Wilson Award. He was a member and usher at Holy Angels Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus 355, American Legion Post 458, Hamilton Elks Lodge # 2262, and a Habitat for Humanity volunteer. Loved by many, Daddy, Dad, Pop, Grandpop, Rich, Richie, Richard, Bobek, Sir, Pan, or Mr. O was the same quality, caring, creative, and witty man whether he was commanding the room or sitting back to enjoy. Son of the late John and Stella Glowacki Olszewski and son-in-law to the late Carl and Theresa DiCesare Morzillo, Richard re-unites with his high school sweetheart and wife Elizabeth “Betty” Morzillo Olszewski (1989) and son Michael Richard Olszewski (1967) in eternal life. Left to cherish his memories and live the model of their hero Dad / Pop are daughters Janice Eileen Elizabeth Olszewski of Hamilton and Carla Jean Theresa Olszewski Cook and son-in-law Ken of Robbinsville, son Paul Richard Michael Olszewski of Hamilton and grandchildren, who adored their Grandpop / Gramps, Matthew Michael Richard Cook of N. Stonington, CT and Caitlyn Kelly Elizabeth Cook of Robbinsville. Each will always “Think”. In-laws Frank and Nancy Morzillo Paulus of Virginia, formerly of Mercer County, were lovingly “Nance” and “Brother Frank” to Richard. Richie enjoyed friendships with his sisters and their husbands Alice and Ed Groch and Jean and Bill Harbach of Hamilton and Mary Joan and Joe Maruca of Ewing. Rich will be dearly missed by his long-time friend and companion Melanie Zador of Surry, ME. Uncle Rich inquired, and bestowed wisdom and commentary on Beth Ann, Frankie, Steve, Marcia, Bobby, Christopher, Jonathan, Gregory, Joey and Nicky, often with a “How are you doing, Kid?”. Cousin Rich “Cuz” shared a brotherly closeness with Al Glowacki and Stan Belza and daughters Roseann and Regina, as well as cousins with which Richard spent enjoyable and adventurous days on his grandparents “Fruit Acre Farm” in Acushnet. Many friends, relatives and his swimming ladies at the Hamilton Ywho knew Rich felt blessed and lucky. Sad without his best friend and master is “You’re such a good dog” Dusty. The family thanks Bogusa for her kindness and Polish chats with Pan Richard. Godsent were the anonymous donors of blood and platelets from which Richard benefited.
