My best friend from elementary school, Aicee, and I used to engage in such a range of imaginary play. One that we dearly loved was to put my dads LP of Swan Lake on the turntable, and as the music soared, so we did as well--two of the best ballerinas in the world, surely. Besides that, the woods surrounded us, and our footsteps would tread little paths to and from the biggest manzanita bush we could find, which became our secret fort. We swept all the dried leaves away with a fallen branch we found, and the bush was so strong we could climb up into its arms and survey the territory. We explored the woods and meadows and hills to our hearts content, unencumbered by todays parental fears that we might be kidnapped or killed... Aicee found this video and sent it to me...I can easily believe that this ballerina studied nature in its own divine dance. In high school, I actually got to see her in the role of Odette/Odile at the Shrine Auditorium.
