My best video award for 2014 goes to Nathan Carroll and sometimes - TopicsExpress

My best video award for 2014 goes to Nathan Carroll and sometimes known as N2O. I am going to explain why I think is such a special video in a moment but first some background; I have always had an appreciation for Nathans videos as he hikes the same areas that I love to hike. We share an appreciation for the beauty of the Cumberland Plateau and I suppose we can both be labeled gorge rats. Nathan works at the same place as I yet have met him only once as we did a short hike to Machine Falls. At that time he showed me his new toy which was a camera stabilizer and I knew that this new device was going to take his already formidable videography skills to greater heights. This video is titled Greeter Falls which is located in the Savage Gulf in Grundy County, TN. It is a place we both love dearly for its beauty and natural ruggedness. However, this video is not aptly named for it is not a video about Greeter Falls so much as a video about his three sons with Greeter simply being the backdrop. It is essentially just a home movie of a trip with his three sons but how many people make home movies of this depth and quality? The videography is superb as is the editing. The chosen music could not have been better as it captures beautifully the almost melancholic quality of a special time shared which is unique and will never be replicated. The sons and their experience are forever captured in this beautiful time capsule and we, the viewers, get a small glimpse into a beautiful family. At the 22 second mark we see the youngest captured as one totally wide eyed and innocent yet a youngster with pride in who he is. At the 39 second mark we see the eldest son assisting the youngest over an obstacle along the trail. The love and closeness of these three brothers are very much demonstrated in this video. At the 1:32 mark we find the two youngest being very youthful whereas the oldest who is much closer to full maturity is caught in a more reflective and contemplative state. At 2:13 we find the three boys running through a field in what is an almost romantic idealism reminiscent of a more gentler and innocent time. At the 2:44 mark we find a photograph where the elder son seemingly explaining to his younger siblings the ways of nature and life probably as Nathan did to him in his more youthful days on their hikes together. Its just a beautifully done and timeless video and has both little and everything to do with a very special place; Greeter Falls in the Savage Gulf. I may actually hike to lower Greeter Falls on Christmas Eve. Havent decided yet.
