My birthday is on Monday. Usually around my birthday, the days - TopicsExpress

My birthday is on Monday. Usually around my birthday, the days are pretty nice with few problems. Its like being in a zone so you can catch your breath for the rest of the year. This week has been kind of rough with only two-to-three people in the office. When I started there we had eight people and now, six years later, were down to not even a handful. There are periods during the day when the phone never stops ringing and employees dont stop coming in with their problems to be solved. Its tiring to say the least. Anyway, Ive kept wondering why it hasnt eased up somewhat since my birthday is so damn close. Its said that the luckiest time of your life in on your birthday, epecially at the exact time you were born. Okay, so Im going upstairs to get the afternoon mail in the administrative offices today, and I walk by several tables of memorbilia for sell. I know the people who run it. I purchased my autographed poster of Field of Dreams from them, as well as the signed poster from the movie, Rudy. In fact, they even introduced me to Rudy last January and he signed the autobiography I had of him. Anyone who knows me well enough understands that Im a big James Bond fan. For fifty years Ive wanted to get an autographed poster or photograph of Sean Connery as James Bond. Though Ive enjoyed all the actors whove protrayed Bond (I have to admit to really loving Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig as 007), Ive always considered Sean Connery to be the definitive James Bond. I saw Goldfinger when I was 14, and that movie changed my life. Well, Im walking by the tables and suddenly I see a framed, matted, autographed picture of Sean Connery in his iconic pose from his second Bond film, From Russia With Love. This is the one where hes dressed in his black tuxedo and has his black hair slicked back, and is holding a .22 target semi-automatic pistol to the side of his face. Not only that, but the framed item also has a mini-poster of each of his Bond movies. I immediately ran over to guys and talked to them about it. They said it had been sitting in their store for two years and nobody even looked at it, so they brough it the hotel with their sports memorbilia to see if they could sell it. We talked about it for a few minutes, and they knocked $50 off the price and told me to take it home with me, that I could pay them tomorrow, which is payday for our employees. They had their tables set up for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Not only was this pure luck on my part, or maybe it was the work of the Universe, or our creator. I dont know. I will say that this is a great birthday present to myself for a very hard and difficult year. The price I was quoted for the Connery/Bond item was very reasonable in my mind. In other words, I could swing it and still eat for the next two weeks. Needless to say, I jumped at their offer. I have the item sitting on the floor next to me, leaning against a chair as I write this. I keep looking down at it and saying to myself, My name is Bond...James Bond. Wow, what a birthday present! Of course, I wont be able to buy a set of books I wanted this weekend, but maybe next payday.
