My boss; the one at my second, part-time and seasonal job, was somehow able to give me a bonus this year –even though she’s the sole proprietor of a local “micro” business that exists only by the sweat of her (and we dedicated workers’) brow. And I truly appreciate the recognition and gesture. What I Don’t get, is why the company where I have worked full-time for well over a decade can’t seem to manage as much as Dunkin Donuts gift card for its employees at Christmas time- -to say nothing of a token bonus, a ham, a holiday basket, or…oh, I don’t know…one red cent in raises for over 3 years now! I used to work in this awful sweat shop like place in East Providence doing some sort of factory assembly work. You know what I remember about the place? Not the monotony of it or the relatively low pay, no, I remember the Thanksgiving turkeys and Christmas Hams and tickets to Trinity’s ‘A Christmas Carol’, and I think, “Gee, what decent company to work for”- that’s what I remember about the place.… How much does THAT cost?
