My brother just texted me to tell me that my favorite college math teacher, Dr. Gordon Mock died. Dr. Mock was a brilliant, witty man with high standards, and although many were intimidated by him (especially girls), I loved him and always tried to get in his math classes when I registered every quarter. He was a Democrat, like me, and one day we talked politics together. I had participated in a protest and was upset that the person I wanted was not chosen to be the candidate for POTUS. I was so upset that I wasnt planning to vote at all, but he did not understand that and was disturbed by what I said. Indeed, he felt that we needed to stay united, even though we did not get what we wanted. That was long ago, and I am embarrassed today that I even said that, but I understand now just what that wise man was trying to say to me. Its actually happening in the Democratic party today. My discussion with him though long ago will always be with me. Sadly, I think that the last conversation I had with him was one in which I said I was going to postpone my education for awhile because I was pregnant. He wanted me to continue to go to school. His last words to me were You have such a fine mind, and that was the nicest thing that anyone ever said to me. :( RIP, Dr. Mock.
