My brother owned 3 Porsche 914s, with the last one being a 914-6, which is the rare model with the VW 4-banger pulled out and a genuine Porsche 911 flat-six engine squeezed into it. His was a blueprinted engine that produced probably close to 200 horsepower or maybe more. That doesnt sound like much today, but 200 horses in a car that weighs about 1800 pounds with a full gas tank is a MONSTER. Ive driven every kind of Porsche up to the later 911s, some Ferraris, a Maserati, even a Lamborghini and a lot of Corvettes, but none of them were more THRILLING to drive than his 914-6. It was LOW, and had a fully modified chassis, and it cornered like it was literally on rails; never have felt so secure in a turn in any other car. The engine....oh the engine. Take the music of an aircooled Porsche 911 engine, and turn it around and right behind the drivers seat, where the cooling fans wail sings directly into the cockpit, and you have a car that does not need a stereo. :-) 914s were shunned by the world because they didnt know just how GREAT they were to drive, and were judged by their unusual styling. Id give anything for one more blast down a curving road in my brothers 914. :-)
