Pontius Pilate placed on the cross the legal charge for which Jesus was being crucified: THIS IS JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH, KING OF THE JEWS. Whereupon, the Jewish leaders protested. They demanded that the Roman governor take down what he had written or rephrase it to read something like: THIS IS JESUS OF NAZARETH WHO CLAIMED TO BE KING OF THE JEWS. stubbornly, however, Pilate maintained: WHAT I HAVE WRITTEN, I HAVE WRITTEN. This is it, my brother, youve just said it as it is. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
