My buddy Rusty Zimmerman tagged me for the ice bucket challenge. So Ima donate to ALS research, not because Im afraid of having ice dumped on me, but because my making a probably rather boring video helps people with the disease not at all, and my money maybe will. Instead of a funny video of me in cold water, heres a not so funny PIF that I saw some time ago about ALS/Motor Neurone Disease. Warning: disturbing. This may be overwrought but it is also powerful. Its sometimes tough for those of us who are privileged with wellness to understand what it is like to live with bodies that are beyond our control. Going over the top can help to get the point across. I have been privileged to play a tabletop game with a young man affected by either ALS or something very similar. His muscles are weakened enough that he is almost completely paralyzed. Only having known him briefly, its obvious that he is sharp and witty; I wonder how often he has to deal with not only his disability, but the people who cannot see beyond it.
