My burger story (only read if you like burgers). After the quiz - TopicsExpress

My burger story (only read if you like burgers). After the quiz bowl we went to the Galleria mall and I was ravenous and began exploring food options. I saw a photo of a burger that looked amazing from The Grill on the Alley, but we all know the actual food never looks like the pic right? Nevertheless, it was enough to get me in the door. I locate the restaurant, enter, and realize this is going to be more of dining experience than eating at some joint. Im seated, begin looking over the menu and I thought the prices were exorbitant because the restaurant was at the Galleria and in Dallas and there were suckers who would pay these prices. At any rate, I was hungry and that was one good looking burger in the pic. I always ask the waitstaff questions wherever I go if its some place new and I had my options narrowed down to three choices: chicken pot pie for $16, the pepper bacon burger (the pic) for $15, and the Kobe beef burger with black and white truffle mayo for $20. I asked my waitress about my choices and after a pretty thorough discourse on her end she said most people prefer, and the chef recommends the pepper bacon burger. So that is what I ordered with blue cheese instead of cheddar and the waitress told me it is cooked medium and I say, PERFECT! The burger comes out and it looks EXACTLY like the picture, except I didnt get cheddar. The burger is served with the top bun off and flipped over and has a thin layer of 1,000 Island dressing and the bottom bun is stacked with lettuce, tomato, a thick, handmade patty, blue cheese, and a mound of diced, caramelized onions, and a HEAPING pile of crumbled bacon with fresh cracked pepper corns. I assembled the top bun, pressed it down so I could get it in my mouth, and as soon as I picked it up, meat juices (not grease) trickled down my fingers. I knew it was going to be good. As I was bringing it to my lips and opening my mouth, I could smell the bacon, peppercorns, cheese, and onions. I bit into it and it was perfectly seasoned, tender, juicy, and the onions and surprisingly the pepper had a sweet taste. I was pleased that the pepper wasnt too peppery lol. The waitress came around to check on me and I couldnt talk, because my mouth was full and all I could do was make noises, which she understood. The chef came around and asked how it was... more noises. I couldnt eat another bite. So I thought. The waitress says, Im supposed to suggest dessert and bring you a menu, but it looks like- Oh go ahead and let me just look at it. She brought it and began telling me about some different things and I chose the Tres Leches cake. Sometimes that cake can be dense and sometimes dry, even though it is made from three milks. Ive made it before and mine was a disappointment. She told me the chef pokes thousands of holes in the cake, pours on sweetened condensed milk, heavy cream, and evaporated milk(?), then drizzles with chocolate sauce, raspberry sauce, and caramel sauce and a dollop of whipped cream. It was also delicious. Anyway, all burgers are not created equal. If you are anywhere near the Galleria and are hungry, check this place out. There really is such a thing as a $15 burger that is worth every penny. FYI: the Kobe burger is also good, but the patties come to the restaurant pre-made. The waitress said all the food is incredible and I believe her. The chef does a great job!
