My cheery ray of sunshine music review for the afternoon: I just listened to (most of) Mike Oldfields album Voyages. It is relentlessly, annoyingly, depressingly Celtic. I think he was trying to capitalize on a faddish cultural love affair with all things Celtic. I recommend this album for when youre doing housecleaning, especially if youre vacuuming a lot, taking out recycling, compost, garbage, yard waste, as I was. Whatever you can do to distract you from or drown out the sounds of this recording will be to your benefit. I still love Tubular Bells and Platinum and Ive been enjoying lately discovering his 1987 release, Islands, but Voyages was so boringly, repetitively droning and formulaic that Ive put on some Van Morrison for an antidote to the mood it put me in.
