My class today with the 7th and 8th grades was about Challoween, or Jewish Monsters, Ghosts and Other Demons. It is so hard to ignore Halloween in this side of the world. Its like living in the town from the Nightmare Before Christmas. (And I am starting to realize I dress like a Tim Burton movie character around this time of year). Halloween has a taboo. We discussed what taboo is and what something that shocked or bothered one generation in can be weirdly normal to the next. Personally I love Halloween, and I dont think dressing like Superman or a Ninja Turtle and ask for Kit-Kats will turn me or any children into Satanic killer monsters. Nor will they abandon their religion. I think that forbidding Halloween will scare your kids away even more from whatever you are trying to teach him or her. Halloween is part of the American Milieu, just like Thanksgiving and 4th of July. Its a Public Carnival. The Jews think its Christian, the Christians think its Pagan, the Pagans think its been Hallmarkized, and so on, nobody wants to face the beauty of having a day like this dedicated in almost every culture in the world. Facing those fears, the unknown, the magical and the powerful is part of the desire programmed in our human operational system. The class is thinking about studying in depth the topic and bring a challenge to the Principal and their parents about the possibility of having some Halloween decoration for future years. I encouraged it. Challenge the system! We watched three videos: https://youtube/watch?v=bQ0PX78l080
