My colleague, Jeremy Cullen writes: ... I was a music editor on composer Howard Shores score for this tiny wee NZ film…with Mark S. Willsher, Stephen Gallagher, Nigel Scott, conductor Conrad Pope and a panoply of other talented NZ sound post crew. Great to hear today that the Wellington Town Hall where the NZSO recorded The Hobbit score is going to be saved and restored, so hopefully its stunning acoustic can be heard on future film scores! Fantastic news! The acoustics of Wellington Town Hall are nothing short of MAGNIFICENT! The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra is world class in every respect and up to playing anything being written today---either for film or the concert stage. Without question. one of the most professional, quick study, co-operative, creative and gracious groups of musicians it has been my distinct pleasure and privilege to not only lead, but to follow. They can do anything one can ask for--- or, better yet, dream. Delighted the Townhall has survived not just the earthquakes but Wellingtons politics!. Now, if only Pete Cobbin can be enticed to set-up the recording booth..... ( and bring those microphones from Abbey Road Studios...)
