My continuing adventures with Obamacare: I met with my uncle - TopicsExpress

My continuing adventures with Obamacare: I met with my uncle today to discuss my options for insurance under the ACA. He has been a licensed health insurance agent for many, many years and is one of the most knowledgeable people available in our area when it comes to health insurance. He explained that the Blue Advantage plan is the only one available in our area. The plan has different levels. As with most people, I qualify - or would benefit most - from the Silver level plan. The base premium, deductible and out-of-pocket limit are all HIGHER than my current plan. The premium, in fact, is almost double my current premium...almost, but not quite. Fortunately, I do qualify for subsidies. I also qualify (based on my income) for additional cost sharing, which subsequently REDUCES the amount of premium, deductible and out of pocket expense *I* have to pay myself. So, WHEN the marketplace is actually back up and running, it appears I will have a plan that is equal - or better - than what I have now and, after government assistance, I WILL be paying less overall for it. Of course, the only hitch in the plan IS the fact that the marketplace currently is NOT working at all, so I cannot apply for the subsidies yet. I could apply for the policy without the subsidies, but then my monthly premium would go from $250/month up to $427/month. Which means that, for now, Im still waiting on the Obama administration to get their insurance marketplace up and running before I can proceed.
