My country Ghana will be 57 years old tomorrow. I know we have - TopicsExpress

My country Ghana will be 57 years old tomorrow. I know we have come a loooooong way to get to where we are. However, are we walking at a snails pace or are we taking one step at a time?. For some, tomorrow is just a mere holiday to be away from the hustle and bustle of work, for others especially students, it will be a day to march at the Independence Square and salute the president and this will be historic to them. When all is said and done, my question is what does our Independence mean to us as Ghanaians? Do we know what we stand for and who we are? I know it will be another talk shop of speeches and remarks. But at the end the economy is not stable, businesses men and women are pricing their goods without any regulation, the troski drivers are ever ready to increase transportation fares once they hear that fuel prices have gone up. Graduates find it difficult to get decent employment, women are still dying whiles trying to give life etc... But we are 57 years old. It is good but can we boast about our successes? This is not a time to hide behind the success of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and the Big Six. It is time for us to make our own history because the country belongs to generations after us.
